Lavash

Leaves are a puffy thin bread usually served as an appetizer in restaurants throughout Turkey and also used to make wraps with herbs and cheese.

Ingredients Required:

To make 8 lavash
Dried yeast (4.5g)
All purpose flour (300g)
Sugar (14.5g)
Salt (4.5g)
Water (150ml)

Preparation Method:

  • First, mix dry yeast and sugar in warm water and keep aside until you see small bubbles on the surface of water (approximately 15 minutes)
  • Now add melted butter, salt, flour in yeast and sugar mixed water
  • Mix until dough becomes smooth and elastic (approximately 10 minutes)
  • Now shift the dough to oil greased bowl for 2 hours or until dough has doubled in size
  • Preheat the oven to 480 F/ 250 C
  • Take dough and make small balls with the help of floured hands
  • Flatten the small ball using a rolling pin and continue until it becomes very thin disk
  • Optional: Sprinkle sesame and nigella seeds into dough and roll it with the rolling pin with one last stroke
  • Bake in oven for 8 minutes or until it puff up and changes color to brown
  • Now serve your lavash with cheese, butter, grilled meat or salad
